History of First Friday

First Friday devotions among Catholics are related to devotion to the Sacred Heart of Christ. First Friday practices date to the last decades of the 17^th century, when Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary and spoke to her of His Sacred Heart. Among the promises Our Lord revealed to St. Margaret Mary, the 12^th specifically referenced practices for Fridays:

In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.

Devotion of the Five First Saturdays

For Five (5) consecutive first Saturdays:

 

1) Confess within eight (8) days of the first Saturday.

 

2) Receive Holy Communion in the state of grace.

 

3) Recite the Rosary: five (5) decades.

 

4) Keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary.

 

Perform all of these with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Sacrament of Confession

Great news!  Over the weekend I ran into a friend of mine who made his first Confession in 35 years, praise be to God! 


This reminded me of the many resources available on the web including a schedule of confession times throughout the Archdiocese of Saint Paul (seee below) from Stella Borealis.
